Whitney Sharp DiMatteo (Class of 2001)

Whitney Sharp DiMatteo graduated from Roswell in 2001.  She was a tremendous high school athlete who stood out in Cross Country and Soccer.  Her Cross Country career and records are astounding.  During her Sophomore year, Whitney won 1st Place in 9 of 10 Cross Country Meets.  Those 9 first place finishes included Whitney setting 2 Course Records and a new RHS Record time as a Sophomore.  Her dominance continued through her Junior and Senior Cross Country seasons by once again winning 1st Place in 9 of 11 Cross Country Meets BOTH YEARS and Whitney once again set 2 more Course Records each year and breaking her own RHS School Record each year.  So, if you are keeping track – Whitney Sharp WON FIRST PLACE in 27 of 32 High School Cross County Meets, set 6 course records, and set new RHS school records three times over.  That is incredible!

Whitney was a State Champion in 1998 and set a School Record of 18:10 for 5k of 3.1 miles.  She was a highly decorated athlete by many metrics in 1998, 1999, and 2000 as demonstrated by her being named to the GHSA All-State Cross Country Team, AJC Athlete of the Week, GPTV Athlete of the Week, and Roswell Neighbor Newspaper Athlete of the Year – ALL THREE YEARS.  She was named as the Top 10 Sports Story of the Year for North Fulton in her senior season of 2000.  Other incredibly impressive honors Whitney earned while at Roswell High include being named the Atlanta Track Club Cross Country Woman of the Year in 1998, 1999, and 2000 and Whitney was nominated for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award in 2000.

Following her impressive career at Roswell High School, Whitney ran collegiately at Furman University, where she earned All-South Conference honors twice and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2004.  She continued her academic momentum into higher education at Auburn, where she earned a Master of Education Degree in 2005 and a Master of Science in 2008.  She has used her vast education to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst for the last 15 years.  She is passionate about making the world a better place for those who are neurodiverse.

Whitney moved back to Roswell in 2019 with her husband and best friend Jeff DiMatteo, children Georgia and Tucker, and their two golden retrievers Bo and Clark.  She wants to acknowledge how much the unconditional love and support from her parents Jerry and Sue Sharp and her beloved trainer/mentor Mr. Tim Weaver played in her incredible success at Roswell High School and Furman.
